LOS GLACIARES NATIONAL PARK

Created in 1937 in Argentina’s Santa Cruz Province, Los Glaciares National Park protects nearly 1,800,000 acres (726,000 hectares) of Patagonian forest and steppe ecoregions, as well as more than a dozen glaciers descending from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field — the largest ice cap outside Earth’s poles — into fjord-like lakes in the west, extending well into the Argentinian steppe in the east.

Within the park are some of Patagonia’s most famous natural landmarks: the dynamic Perito Moreno Glacier, and two of the world’s most magnificent mountains: Cerro Torre and Monte Fitz Roy.

EL CHALTÉN

Sitting at the foot of these spectacular mountains, this small Argentinean village is one of the world’s great adventure destinations. The nearest airport is El Calafate, just 3 hours away — connected by daily flights from Buenos Aires and Santiago, Chile.
